Membership

Joining the Sharon Presbyterian Family

Whether you are a member or a guest, we rejoice that the Holy Spirit has led you to Sharon Presbyterian Church! If you are seeking a church home in this community, we invite you to consider membership here.

How to Join

If you wish to explore membership, please reach out to one of our pastors or contact the church office.

You may join Sharon Presbyterian Church through:

  • Profession of Faith (and Baptism) — if you have never been a member of a Christian church but wish to do so now.

  • Reaffirmation of Faith — if you have been a baptized member of a church in the past, you may renew your faith with this congregation.

  • Letter of Transfer — if you wish to transfer a current membership from another congregation.

  • Another option is to become an Affiliate Member, which allows you to formally unite with our congregation while retaining your full membership in your home church, wherever that church may be.

The Meaning of Membership

Membership in the Church of Jesus Christ is a joy and a privilege. It is also a commitment to participate in Christ’s mission. A faithful member bears witness to God’s love and grace and promises to be involved responsibly in the ministry of Christ’s Church.

Such involvement includes:

  • proclaiming the good news in word and deed,

  • taking part in the common life and worship of a congregation,

  • lifting one another up in prayer, mutual concern, and active support,

  • studying Scripture and the issues of Christian faith and life,

  • supporting the ministry of the church through the giving of money, time, and talents,

  • demonstrating a new quality of life within and through the church,

  • responding to God’s activity in the world through service to others, living responsibly in the personal, family, vocational, political, cultural, and social relationships of life,

  • working in the world for peace, justice, freedom, and human fulfillment, caring for God’s creation,

  • participating in the governing responsibilities of the church, and reviewing and evaluating regularly the integrity of one’s membership, and considering ways in which one’s participation in the worship and service of the church may be increased and made more meaningful.

What Questions Am I Asked

When I Become a Member?

New members are asked the following questions:

  • Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as the Son of God and your Savior, and do you depend upon Christ alone for your salvation?

  • Do you promise to serve Christ in the church by supporting and participating in its service to God and its ministry to others to the best of your ability?

As a part of your commitment, the congregation also commits to support your spiritual growth in Christ.
